What Is Gel Printing?
Gel printing is a fast, intuitive printmaking process that rewards curiosity over precision.
It’s one of those rare techniques that feels almost impossible to do “wrong.” We’ll create abstract textures, patterns, and marks to build rich, expressive prints. This is playful artmaking at its most pure. The gel printing process encourages experimentation and embraces unexpected results.
What You'll Do
You’ll explore how shape, pressure, and negative space interact on the gel plate. Some prints will be delicate and detailed; others more impressionistic. There is something quietly relaxing about working with botanical forms. A single branch or leaf often reveals a surprising softness and unexpected beauty.
We’ll also explore color combinations, learning what colors pop and which are more calming. You’ll instinctively find your own style. Gel prints can be dreamy, or wild, or somewhere in-between.
It's fast — you’ll be able to try ideas, adjust them, and discover new directions without getting stuck or overthinking. You’ll make many prints in a short time and leave the class with finished work in hand.
Who Is This For?
Everyone! The gel printing process is equally welcoming to people who have never made a print before and to experienced artists looking to loosen up, recharge, or explore new ideas. Many students are surprised by how accomplished their prints feel, even on the first pull of the paper off the gel plate.
This is a great experience for groups, families, kids, parties, team building, and a creative day out with friends. You'll experience impromptu collaborations, and hear cheers when prints are lifted, and "I want to try that!"
This class can be taken on its own or combined with the gel printing botanicals class to create even more complex and original artwork.
Please note that my classes are taught in English.
